Yet another attempt to circumvent the very real but misguided aversion in the UK for digital identities has been announced. Lets hope that this time it is more successful, even though the stakeholders are mainly from the finance sector. - Cheap for the government, I suppose. The problem is 'Trust' - as usual. Do the public (and that includes company officers) actually trust the banks more than the government?
The answer is probably yes, but not by much.
Speaking to 'the street' (or in English: The man on the Clapham Omnibus) one can immediately tell the trust levels are low in both cases. I acually think that the National Health Service (NHS) is more trusted, - the first universal ID number in the UK for citizens was the NHS number (in the late 1940s) but the trust in that was diluted with time.
However, nowdays the NHS has zero effectiveless with large scale IT programs - so I would forget them too.
